Platonic Touch Therapy

In our Platonic Touch Therapy sessions, folx come to relax in a welcoming environment and receive a secure and experiential practice with boundaries.

This occurs by beginning with a warm welcome and a heart-to-heart conversation. We set intentions and goals for the session. We practice, grounding techniques to promote relaxation, boundary-building and boundary-thanking exercises, and touch etiquette. I have found that this structured session builds a secure and trusting container for both of us.

The remaining time in the session is spent giving, receiving, and negotiating touch in a way that supports feeling connected and whole.

Touch is optional, AND never a requirement, always consensual, and always platonic/G-rated.

  • A platonic touch therapist is someone who provides access to platonic touch through boundary building and consent education for the purposes of validating our humanity and nurturing an authentic connection.

We say “provide access” to touch because there are many times when we don’t ever touch, but access is what is important.

We say “platonic” touch because we are working in the realm of non-sexual, non-romantic intimacy.

We include boundaries and consent education because the structure has to be present in the session, otherwise, touch is categorically unsafe.

  • There are 4 parts to a therapy session.

    1. We start with a heart-to-heart, ask about your day, how you are feeling, and a general checking in. We will set goals and or intentions for the session. We go over our boundaries, reminders of our no-touch zones, and what your likes, and dislikes are.

      2. Once we have connected in our heart-to-heart, I like to lead us in grounding practices to calm our nervous system, which may include some guided meditation or breath work. Sometimes dance and movement.

      3. We can play board games, color in some coloring books, watch Netflix, cook a meal, and listen to music. Other activities can include, hair playing/braiding, light massage, and being read to. The possibilities are endless.

All activities can include a variety of levels of touch or no touch.

    4. I’ll give us a gentle reminder when it’s close to our end time. So that we have time to bring our session to an end, share thoughts or feedback, schedule our next session, and exchange our heartfelt goodbyes.

    Types of Companionship I offer:

Playground Companion - think of schoolmates - creative/playful activities

Familial Companion - think of siblings/cousins/relatives you enjoy spending quality time with - option to help with reparenting ourselves

Best Friend Companion - think of spending time with your bestie

  • Wear what you would wear to a yoga class, massage, or movie. Your favorite loungewear. Think comfy and cozy. Shorts, sweatpants, leggings, pajamas, t-shirts, dress shirts, jeans... I want you to be comfortable with what your choice of clothing is, but the bare minimum is a tank top and gym shorts

Think of it this way: if your doctor, therapist, chiropractor, or any other professional provider is uncomfortable looking at you in what you're wearing during your appointment, then it's not appropriate for sessions.

I ask that all my clients try to bathe and brush their teeth within 6 hours of their session time with me, to not smoke within 1-2 hours of seeing me, and to wear clean clothes for our session. Also please refrain from smoking and drinking for at least 2 hours from our session time.

We will be wearing our masks since we work in close proximity and want to keep each other safe. - we can discuss your health/safety concerns or needs.

If you are feeling unwell or experiencing any symptoms, please reschedule.

  • Getting aroused while in session is something that can happen and is normal. Take a moment to celebrate that our bodies are healthy and working.

My best recommendation is to take a deep breath in and begin to shift your mind, body, and awareness away from the arousal, get up, take a break, drink water, stretch, and or change positions.

*In most platonic touch positions we will use a pillow or blanket to create a barrier between us.
